A.K.A.
A national organising body for
Amateur Kickboxing in England.
I.K.F.
An International Sanctioning body for Amateur
Titles.
All A.K.A.
titles are co-sanctioned through the I.K.F.
A.K.A. 'Junior'
Rules were established to
support the push to gain Olympic recognition
for Kickboxing.
A.K.A. 'Junior' Rules
allow NO HEAD-CONTACT.
The techniques of Kicks & Punches &
Knee strikes are only allowed to the body
and legs.
This format gives Children the experience
of competing, but under very strict safety
criteria.
Bouts contested with NO
HEAD-CONTACT are commonly
referred to in Japan as KNOCKDOWN
matches.
Should a competitor be knocked down for 5
seconds or more then a competitor loses a
match ( for example due to kicks to the leg,
or being winded by a knee to the body ).
Although there is NO
HEAD-CONTACT allowed during
Junior bouts Headguards are still mandatory
under A.K.A. 'Junior' Rules
to protect against cuts should there be a
clash of heads and as an additional layer
of protection should an strike make contact
outside of the permited target zones ( Body
and Legs ).
